Testimonials

Askari is a wonderful way to experience the South African wilderness in an entirely different way than typical safaris or tourist volunteer programs. Volunteers are “up close and personal” with the operation of a true conservation reserve, experiencing first-hand the effort, rewards and heartbreak of working to restore and maintain the natural environment. Highly recommended for people willing to learn and get their hands dirty. It’s an enriching experience....

This was the best experience in my life. I loved everything about it, from working hard to making new friends. When I first came here I was very nervous, after a few days this was already gone because of the fun. Because this is the perfect combination between hard work and making friends and I would love to come back....

I liked my stay at Askari very much. We learned a lot about wilderness and conservation. You live with a group of people in one house. That is cozy. But yes you have to work, but  the work is very enjoyable. And all the staff members are very nice. If you get the chance to go just go. It is a once in a lifetime and I recommend to go to Askari to do all those things....

I enjoy very much my time at Askari. It was amazing to live in the bush during one month with Katie & Robbie and my great team of volunteers. I saw lots of animals and I learned a lot of things everyday. I will never forget my experience at Askari. Also, I found a lot of friends and I improve my English. The activities are very varied and interesting. Katie & Robbie take time to explain very good a lot of things about the bush & wilderness. The night outside was a really fun and amazing experience. I thank them a lot for their generosity, their knowledge, their good mood and their kindness. I wish the best to Askari, Katie...

This trip was absolutely amazing. The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and definitely knew a lot about everything to do with the reserve. It was amazing to see all the different animals and their behaviours. It was also interesting to learn about the different ecosystems and observe how different the topography was here compared to back home. Overall, this was an absolutely incredible trip that I will always remember....

I went into this trip without really doing any research but always knew it was going to be a once in a lifetime experience and it sure did deliver that. I knew it was going to be extra special when we had an elephant come close to the game viewer on our second day in. And after spending 2 ½ days at Kruger it really hit home how lucky we were here at Askari and Pidwa and the seeing the animals here in our day to day activities. Absolutely loved the hand on approach, whether it was the jobs we had to do or being involved with darting a sick animal with the vet or setting up a camera trap...

I came here with the hopes of expanding my knowledge and education around conservation and wildlife/ecosystem management. I never expected the programme to go above and beyond everything I hoped for, not only allowing me to not only expand my knowledge but also now very close with a group of individuals I have been here with....

I had an amazing time here and learned so much more than I could have ever expected to. I loved how hands on all the activities were and how knowledgeable and easy to get along with the staff are. I have definitely had some of the best days of my life in these last couple of weeks at Askari!...

Askari was an amazing experience! I really enjoyed this project which is very well organised. I have learnt a lot of information about reserve management and wildlife thanks to Katie & Robbie who are very welcoming and knowledgeable. I have also discovered a lot of different activities. Every day, which was very enriching. I highly recommend this project for anyone who wants to discover life in the bush. Thank you very much Katie & Robbie for your kindness, your good mood, your jokes, your patience and all very interesting information you taught me! I couldn’t hope for such a rewarding experience!...

Askari has been the absolute best experience of my life. It has been a dream of mine to work in South Africa since I could ever remember and to have been able to live out that dream here with Katie and Robbie has been extraordinary. The programme consists of some very hard conservational jobs but is made all worth it when you get to see the wild animals enjoying the wilderness being saved by the hard work and dedication. Another amazing aspect to this programme is that I feel like I have made friends for life in such a short spaced of time. We become such a team that it allows you, even people who are introverts, to flourish and...
