I will leave Askari in less than 36 hours and my heart is really heavy and sad. I’ve been here for three months and I have the impression that I arrived only two days ago. Every day at Askari was just magical and amazing. Before coming, you think you will have a nice experience but never can you imagine what you are going to experience. Askari is more than a volunteering project, it’s a way of living, of learning, of understanding. Your heart will beat every day, every hour, not only because you will see wild animals but also because you will meet amazing and passionate people. You will get involved in wildlife protection, you will learn so many things...

My stay at Askari was a wonderful experience. Life in the bush was an amazing experience and it was nice to join like-minded people in this adventure. This is a great , reasonably active way to see nature and the bush in an enjoyable, extended way, while doing a little bit to help the planet and wilderness. Recommended for all!...

I really enjoyed my stay at Askari. The Askari team mainly consisted of Katie, Bron and Stuart. I really appreciated their approach, their passion for animals and wildlife conservation. They are very passionate about their work and are always willing to share their knowledge and anecdotes. As a wilderness enthusiast since my childhood, I came out of this experience enriched! The outings (museum, boat, Kruger National Park) enhance the enriching stay. I strongly recommend to people who want to learn and understand more about African wildlife. It was a great star at Askari!...

This internship/volunteering has been the best experience of my life! This was the first time that I travelled alone for my vet studies and I was just amazed day by day by the animals we discovered. I have got so many great moments that I will always remember, from seeing the lions up close, to seeing such young hyaena pups on our trip to Kruger (so curious and cute!) to having an elephant herd surround us, it was so beautiful! In the final week, we had an unexpected visit from a wildlife vet to assist with an injured cheetah, I am so grateful for that! I made new friends, we had lots of hilarious moments. The braai rendez-vous around the...

I have no words to say how amazing the experience at Askari was… Being in the bush every day with three passionate guides, learning about animals, birds, trees, South Africa, tracks etc is exceptional! I also learnt so many things about reserve management. How hard it is to maintain a good balance. Even at the house, everything is done to keep us comfy, safe and happy. More than animal sightings, it is a human experience! Thanks again for all you’ve done for us, the thought, teaching, the bush stories, the braais!! I felt really involved in the wilderness conservation programme at Askari. I didn’t expect that much! It’s an amazing experience and I recommend this programme without any hesitation! Thank...

I always thought it was a cliché when I heard people talk about overseas trips changing their lives – but that is exactly how I feel! My month at Askari was truly the best month of my life. This trip has solidified my passion for conservation and animals. Immersing myself in the South African bush has been the ultimate escape from city life. I am looking forward to continuing my conservation work back home in New Zealand and also bringing back a new found love of birds! Katie, Bron and Stuart are a wealth of knowledge. Their passion for conservation is infectious and they’re a whole lot of fun too! ...

This is my 4th visit to Askari and I’m totally addicted. Having done a number of volunteer projects around the world, this is by far the best! The balance of adventure, education, work experience is great! Hard to find fault. Katie is exceptional, with outstanding organizational skills. She goes above and beyond all the time....

After my studies I wanted to do something that makes sense to me, working for or with animals was really my desire. I found Askari and it fulfilled both my desire and my dream to go to Africa, this very special land that called me. It was my first time volunteering, I discovered so many things here that it would take me hours and days to talk about it. This experience made me meet such beautiful people, such passionate and admirable staff members and roommates of the world. I could never forget this particular moment in my life. It became normal to see these extraordinary animals in freedom and around the house. Like the giraffe at sunset eating peacefully right...

I don’t know where to start. The stay at Askari really turned into the best experience of my life! Every day was amazing… meeting amazing new people, making new friends, seeing the most awesome animals, learning so much about the bush and conservation, having super enthusiastic guides and so much more! The staff are all very friendly and each day ensure we come home to a clean room. You really learn more about yourself and it’s really nice to get a break from the city and hear the sound of the bush. I am sad to leave but at the same time so happy that I can share my stories with my family and friends I would recommend Askari for...

This volunteering was for me a way to get involved in environmental conservation and to understand the impact of our life and decisions on biodiversity. In one month, I learned so much about nature and its conservation, it was incredible! Katie & Donald are exceptional guides and people who always make sure you get the most out of your stay and really feel involved in the management of the reserve. I am and will always be grateful in many ways for my time at Askari, and leave this experience with a better sense of myself and a better sense of life....
