Testimonials

Askari is a program rich in discoveries and emotions. In one month, I was able to acquire a great deal of knowledge about the flora and fauna and conservation issues within Pidwa in general. The mix between driving, physical work in the reserve and learning is perfect. Thank you to all the staff for being so enthusiastic and sharing their passion....

This was my second visit to Askari, and it was as enthusiastic as the first time. The team is so welcoming and has endless knowledge about the animals and the environment they live in. I was the oldest team member on this occasion but just fitted right in. This project really gives you an opportunity to experience Africa’s wildlife and the environment. Ensuring future generations get to see and enjoy them. Of course, there are serious reasons for running this project, but what a really fun time it is. I would recommend anyone, considering a volunteer project, to come to Askari. You will not be disappointed, and you will definitely be making a difference....

I had an extraordinary experience in Askari, I was the happiest in the world! I don’t have words strong enough to express all the happiness I’ve had here. It’s a great adventure with amazing people. Everyone is lovely here, a big thank you to you Katie and Ed, you are lovely, passionate. I felt at home here and would come back for sure! Thank you for everything, do not change anything. My dream has come true and it is thanks to you. Long live Askari. Love Askari. Thanks...

Askari came to me at a time in my life where I was really questioning my life direction and purpose. South Africa had never occurred to me as a country I wanted to visit as my first outside of my own, but the philosophy and ethics Askari puts forth are really what drew me in. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to be part of such a noble and heart-warming cause. I am so grateful in so many ways for my stay at Askari as I learned so much more beyond what I had expected to in such a short period of time. I have left Askari with a better sense of self and a better sense of life direction....

I stayed at Askari for 3 months and still at the end it felt like I had only experienced the beginning of what the bush had to offer. Every month we would do the same activities but every month it would be different. The most amazing thing about Askari is that everyone has the same goal, to help and improve the bush in any way we can, and so it’s very special when you look back at the end of your stay and you think of all the things you were able to achieve as a team. It really feels like you are making an impact. In those 3 months I learned and shared so much, made friends from around the...

The month I spent at Askari was a life changing experience. Even though our planet is facing a huge environmental crisis and a 6th mass extinction, there are still very few people that are willing to work hard to change the way we’re dealing with biodiversity. The Pidwa staff and the Askari team are some of these few Earth guardians that are entirely committed to environmental conservation and whose decisions are always made in the best interest of the bush and its biodiversity. Ed and Katie are amazing guides and mentors who will make sure that you make the most of your stay and feel really involved in the management of the reserve. Of all the environmental projects I’ve done,...

Staying for 1 month as a volunteer at Askari is a life changing experience. In 1 month you learn so much about nature and nature conservation, it is mind blowing! Next to that you are able to contribute to nature/animal conservation as well. And when you get back home (which you don’t want to do after 4 weeks), you will have gathered amazing stories and will have new lifetime friends from all over the world! It’s not a surprise that a lot of volunteers (want to) return....

It’s better than I imagined. Amazing experience. Katie and Ed are the super heroes of the bush and the Big 5! Our team “High 5, Big 5” had awesome people. Thanks for sleep out, walk in the bush and everything else which was wonderful....

My time here in Askari has been very special. I learned so much about nature. Being here helped me change my perspective towards life. I feel like now I have even more respect towards nature. I am not only taking pictures and knowledge back home but also a big commitment to take care of this planet. I am also super thankful that I got to share this experience with very special people. I loved every second here in Askari and I hope I can be back soon...

This month at Askari was completely awesome, from the beginning to the end. It was a beautiful experience and thanks to two incredible guides, Ed and Katie, we have learned a lot about the bush. I recommend Askari, you can go there with your eyes closed. Thank you Ed and Katie, thank you Askari....
